Baby Bean

It’s been quiet around here, as you will have no doubt have noticed. Of course the move has had a lot to do with that, as I’m still working on unpacking and setting up the house, but there’s another reason too…

We’re having a baby!

We found out shortly before the move, and a scan last week confirmed that everything is looking just peachy. Unfortunately I’m not feeling so peachy, and spend most of each day either in bed asleep, or sitting around quietly trying not to ‘revisit’ my meals any more than necessary. Ugh!

I won’t be able to do an August update as I just don’t have anything new ready right now… I was going to try and rush a few designs but I know I’m never satisfied when I force the process. I’m finding it very difficult to fight through the fatigue enough to accomplish any creative work, but I have my fingers crossed that the second trimester will improve matters!

My first work priority each day is to ship orders, and that is still happening on the normal schedule :)

We are both so happy about the wee bean, and we can’t wait to meet it next March. Ah! Love!

Moved

We’re moved! Hooray!

My office is almost set up again, though it’s going to be Wednesday before I can start shipping again for logistical reasons. I’m looking forward to working out a good arrangement for everything, I have a lot more space now and shouldn’t be tripping over myself so much.

Our new house is lovely, if a lot colder than the apartment – a hot water bottle is required at almost all times. We’ve started the process of getting insulation installed and it should be better after that! The neighbourhood is so quiet that most of the noise in the daytime comes from birdsong, and in the afternoon the sun streams into our bedroom for a wonderful nap.

Thank you for all your patience, hopefully this will be the last interruption to service for a while!

Closing Arrangements

Nut and Bee will soon be closed for about a week while we move house.

Orders placed by:
Noon, Wednesday 15th July (New Zealand)
10am, Wednesday 15th July (Sydney)
1am, Wednesday 15th July (London)
8pm, Tuesday 14th July (New York)
5pm, Tuesday 14th July (Los Angeles)
… will be sent out before we go.

Shipping will resume on the 21st or 22nd, depending on how long it takes to set up again!

I’ll put a note in the cart once we’ve shut, so you will know to expect a delay :)

I should still have email access for most of this time, except perhaps the moving day itself, so feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions/concerns.

Diversions and Amusements 10/7/09

01) A super fun zoological typeface, I just love the hippo-E and meerkat-L and penguin-O! (via Code For Something)

02) I have the original Treeson vinyl figure designed by Bubi Au Yeung, which is super sweet, and I like the look of this new blind box set of Treeson and friends characters too. Hopefully I can find someone selling open boxes so I can pick the ones I like most, Ren and Newspaper Boy and PinB.

03) Speaking of vinyl toys, the Totem Doppelgangers by Anton Ginzburg are also tickling my fancy… but which colour? I think I like white best!

04) There are some craft mediums I just cannot manage, and therefore vastly admire. Polymer clay is one of those, and this miniature salmon preparation board blows me away. I didn’t realise for a minute that the stick on top is a match. Eeep!

05) Goat tower! Goat tower!

06) Zokei University in Japan has the best website ever. Down with staid corporate boredom! (via American Elf)

07) Socks on chair legs. I am going to implement this idea in our house – it will help protect the wooden floors and be super cute!

08) I don’t like to Cute Overload very often, because I assume anyone who looks at my website will already read it, but just in case I must direct your attention to this puppy in a coffee cup. I may have squeaked when I first saw it.

09) And some more adorability, a four minute video of baby pandas playing. They basically just wobble!

10) I’m used to admiring the artwork of Gabe from Penny Arcade, but this sample page of a fantasy-setting boy-scout comic called The Lookouts goes above and beyond. So, so good.

Discontinued & Sold Out Giveaway

We’ve now begun packing to move, and I’ve come across all sorts of discontinued and sold out Nut and Bee items tucked into corners, so I figured the most fun thing to do with them would be a giveaway!

This time there are two prize packages. Each one contains:

  • FIVE assorted 4×4″ prints, signed with my maiden name

  • FIVE assorted magnets
  • THREE assorted paper stationery items

To enter, just leave a comment on this post and tell us which animal you would most like to observe in the wild. For me, I think it would be the sloth!

I will do two random drawings from all valid entries at noon on Friday 10th July (New Zealand time).

N.B. You must leave your comment on the post at www.nutandbee.com, not any syndicated feed services that provide their own comment features. Also, don’t worry if your comment doesn’t appear immediately! First-time comments are held for moderation (to avoid spam), but I will make sure everything has been approved before I do the drawing. Finally, please make sure you enter a valid email address so I can contact you.

July Update

New designs this month:

The Oh! Angora! Letterset is quite a special item as this was one of the very first N&B designs launched way back in 2005. I’ve been thinking about those rabbits rather fondly recently, so I thought a reissue would be fun. I did have to re-draw the design as the files weren’t in the best shape, so it’s a little different to the original, but I hope you enjoy the new-and-improved version!

Also, some advance notice: I will be taking a break from shipping for about a week later this month while we move house. I expect that to be around the 16th-22nd, but it might shift a day or so in either direction – I will post exact order cut-off times here once we’ve made our final arrangements!
